If you are part of the Salesforce ecosystem, it’s important that you know the benefits that you can receive from taking full advantage of a dynamic page layout. For starters, upgrading to a dynamic page layout in Salesforce with standard objects will boost your staff productivity, allow your business workflow processes to be more adaptable to change, and improves the overall user experience of working in Salesforce.

With dynamic page layouts, you receive a wide range of customization options that you can configure to personalize the look and feel of your Salesforce pages. Take control of your data and the way you want to present it by customizing your Salesforce pages based on your requirements which could be user profiles, record types, or field values.

Now you can go ahead and declutter your Salesforce interface by creating custom layouts that only display fields and data that you want to see. Using a dynamic page layout makes finding and working with records so much easier!

How does a Salesforce Dynamic Page Layout Work?

Dynamic page layouts in Salesforce takes your user experiences to the next level! You can now easily declutter your record pages and view your information the way you need. This layout also greatly improves staff productivity as they can find the data that they need to close deals or handle customer complaints quickly and effectively. Overall, adopting to Salesforce dynamic pages creates a more user-friendly interface.

So what do you need to know? We have you covered, here are a few useful pieces of information to help you understand Salesforce Dynamic Page Layouts.

Record Types

First let’s start at the beginning with record types. You can create numerous record types in Salesforce for a single object. Each of these record types can contain many fields, criteria, and page layouts. It’s also worth mentioning quickly that in Salesforce you can change a field label on a page layout.

Page Layouts

Talking about page layouts, you can create as many as you need for each record type. These page layouts help you arrange your fields, related lists, and custom components on your record page. Essentially, they help you display your information the way you want on a record page.

App Builder

So how do you create record pages? You can use the Salesforce Lightning App Builder to create record and Lightning pages. The Salesforce App Builder also allows you to customize your pages to add components to the different sections of your page. You can also go ahead and add a section to your page layout in Salesforce.

Dynamic Components

What else can you do with the Salesforce Lightning App Builder? You can also use this robust tool to create dynamic components that will hide and show data based on record types, user attributes, or field values when you need.

A simple example is to use dynamic components on your page layout to display fields only if a specific value is captured in a picklist. Another great use case for using dynamic components, is to show or hide specific data depending on which user profile views the page. In this way, dynamic components helps you control the way your data is presented and accessed.

Rules and Logic

When you start adding and configuring rules on your page layouts to determine which data is displayed they become dynamic page layouts. It’s important to note that your rules are evaluated during runtime which means that the layout that needs to be displayed will run at the correct moment.

What are the Different Dynamic Page Layouts in Salesforce?

There are many different types of dynamic page layouts offered by Salesforce. They all help in various ways to change your user interface to match the data requirements of your business. Essentially each layout aims to assist you in selecting where you want to place and show your components on a record page. It’s important to remember that you might not have access to all the dynamic page layout options, so we recommend you check your Salesforce edition. However, here are three different dynamic page layouts that you could choose for your record pages:

Number one on the list are Page Layouts! They are the the go-to way to organize your fields, sections, and related lists. You can also create multiple versions of this layout type based on different record types and user profiles.

Making it onto our short list next, is Compact Layouts. This layout helps you present specific fields in the highlights panel found at the top of a record page. Just a reminder, that the highlights panel is fixed and will be visible even when a user scrolls down a page, so make sure you have the correct fields displayed.

And of course, you get Dynamic Forms from Salesforce, which was launched in 2021. This layout is an extremely flexible approach as you can use it to create a single page layout instead of multiple ones for each record type. Salesforce Dynamic Forms is also smart enough that it changes layout according to the values of fields or user permissions set up.

Salesforce Lightning Dynamic Page Layout

Due to it’s popularity, we decided to give Salesforce Lightning Page layout best practices it’s own section instead of a little point. This layout option is available in Lightning Experience and helps you present your various page layouts in a dynamic manner depending on the conditions you set. When you use a Salesforce Lightning Dynamic Page layout, you can go ahead and customize your Salesforce interface based on user profiles.

Custom Interfaces
Custom Interfaces

It’s known to be quite user friendly and allows you to set up different page layouts for a single object and allows you to configure when each layout should be presented. Common examples of objects in Salesforce that benefit from a Salesforce Lightning Dynamic Page layout include Leads, Opportunities, and Accounts. Many businesses set up conditions so that they can view specific layouts based on factors like a user’s profile, a record type or field value, and device type such as desktop, tablet, or mobile.

Top Answers to Succeed with Salesforce

Before we wrap up, we also thought it would be necessary to gather the most popular questions that users often ask, for your benefit. Let us know if you find our answers useful.

What is “Page Layout” in Salesforce?

Have you ever asked this question? A page layout in Salesforce relates to how you arrange and set up your record page to include fields, buttons, related lists, elements, and other components of your choice. The placement of these components at the end of the day will result in your page layout.

Salesforce lets you customize your page layout so that you can view or edit records in a way that is most comfortable and efficient to your workflow processes. The page layout functionality from Salesforce focuses on enhancing user experiences by giving customization options to users.

What is “dynamic dashboard” in Salesforce?

Salesforce is know for their powerful tools and features to create, automate, and streamline sales, marketing, and customer service workflows. But they also have another robust feature that is worth explaining – dynamic dashboards!

Salesforce provides a dynamic dashboard to users so that they can see their data in real time. This data is interactive and can be personalized as well as worked with. Some common tasks that businesses use dynamic dashboards for are analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics. The dynamic dashboard from Salesforce is a popular feature as it also presents data in a format that is both beautiful and easy to understand.

But what’s the catch? Why is it better than other data analysis and reporting tools? Well for one, unlike other software, a dynamic dashboard will automatically sync any new data found in your system to your reports. And how many dynamic dashboards in Salesforce can you create? Depending on your edition you can create up to 10 dynamic dashboards! Now that’s impressive

Why is my Salesforce Page Layout Not Updating?

There could be so many reasons as to why your Salesforce page layout did not update as it should have. This can be quite a stressful episode to encounter and investigate. We picked the top two reasons for this tragedy, but let us know if you have had any other hiccups or factors that could make the list.

1. We would recommend first checking who your page layout is assigned to. Salesforce lets you create different page layouts and assign them to various user profiles. So check if you have given a user access to view the page layout.
2. Another common occurrence is when users create page layouts for record types. This can become quite a complex process, especially if there are multiple record types with page layouts in an object. So check that you are updating the correct record type so that the appropriate page layout is updated as each layout is separate.

These two points are easy to troubleshoot but if you are still struggling with solving your Salesforce dynamic page layout standard object updates, make sure to contact Salesforce support or chat to a Salesforce administrator or developer for help.
