An Overview of the Data Model: Salesforce

When organizations are in the market for a powerful Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool, Salesforce is definitely winning best in the show. This powerful platform stores data that are related to support activities, sales, marketing, and customer interactions are organized and stored according to a specific data model in Salesforce.

Data Storage
Data Storage

The data model contains several components. First, we have the building blocks of Salesforce, objects. Each data entry is comprised of a single field. Think of things like your leads, business contacts, opportunities, accounts, cases, and more.

Objects are where the data is stored and are related to fields that define the type of information that is stored. Fields are used to capture and store data within an object. Objects can consist of various field types – for example, date, dropdown, text, checkbox, number, formula, and lookup fields.

Next, we have Records, which are single components of objects that store data. For example, an Account object can have multiple records that represent different organizations.

Relationships define how the objects relate to each other. There are three different kinds of relationships: First, we have the lookup which is a simple relationship where one object has a reference to another single object. For example, a Contact can be associated with an Account. The second is the mater-detail relationship type. This more structured relationship is where one object is the master and the other is the detail. The detail object will inherit specific characteristics from the master. If the master record is deleted, all the detail objects are also deleted. Finally, there is the Many-to-Many relationship, Salesforce employs junction objects to create many-to-many relationships. For example, students can enroll in multiple classes and each course will have multiple students.

Page Layouts are used to define the arrangement of fields, related lists, and sections of a Salesforce record’s detail and edit pages. The page layouts control the user interface when viewing and editing records. Customization is used to customize the model to match your business process. This includes creating custom fields, relationships, and objects and even developing custom functionality with the use of tools like Apex and Visualforce.

The built-in Salesforce Schema Builder that visually represents object relationships you can easily understand the relationship between objects. Easily configure and define data-sharing settings, security controls and measures, and validation rules to ensure data security and integrity. This model provides the foundation for creating reports and dashboards. These tools are valuable for gaining insight into trends and business performance.

In a nutshell, the Salesforce model is designed to keep your data organized while still allowing you to make custom changes to adapt the model to your business needs.

The Salesforce Surveys Data Model

Salesforce offers a powerful tool called Salesforce Surveys that is used to create and distribute surveys to stakeholders. The survey feedback collected can be used to make improvements to your organization’s offering. The survey model consists of the following key components:

Survey Objects, This is the core information of the survey including the title, description, start and end dates, target stakeholders, and metadata. Question Objects, Every question is stored as its own object, the corresponding submitted answer will directly relate to this object. Response or Answer Objects are where each survey response is stored, this will relate to the question object.

The Salesforce survey tool offers multiple ways of distributing your surveys. You can track each distribution type to gain insight into trends and stakeholder behavior. Finally, your data will be presented in an easy-to-understand way to make direct links between survey questions, responses, and participants. Using the reporting tools you can make important business delicious.

The Salesforce Survey tool does involve a learning curve and strong Salesforce knowledge. Looking for third-party Salesforce survey tools that are easy to use with no coding knowledge needed? Titan is a fully integrated third-party app which means any data captured from surveys is synced with Salesforce. Feedback management is a vital component when using the collected data to make important business decisions which is why the Titan Analytics tool in Salesforce offers multiple easy-to-understand visual reports.

Salesforce Service: Cloud Data Model

The Salesforce Service Cloud can help your business improve its support and track feedback management. Salesforce Service Cloud supports a model that is designed to facilitate the tracking and resolution of customer inquiries and issues. We’ve summarized a few key components of the data model. The Case Object is the central element of the cloud data model. The case represents a customer’s issue, question, or support request. It contains important details like the case subject, status, priority, owner, description, and any related accounts or contacts. You can customize the case with any additional fields if you need to capture specific information relevant to your organization.

Each case is usually associated with a customer and the customer’s organization. The Contacts and Account objects store information about each customer and the associated account, this makes it easy to access customer information when dealing with cases.

You can track the number of case interactions and history using the Case Comments and Case History records. Use the comments field to record communications, notes, and updates. The case history can capture progress and changes over time. Resolving a case often involves team members across different departments. This enables collaboration among different roles within your organization to work together when resolving a case.

The creation of reports and dashboards is fully supported by the Cloud. These reports This model supports the creation of reports and dashboards to gain insights into support performance, agent productivity, case trends, and customer satisfaction.
