How to Use the Rename File Node

Overview

 The Rename File node is used as a pre-action in a flow to update file names before files are uploaded to a storage system. It modifies the file variable itself, ensuring the updated name is used in all downstream actions.

Salesforce Behavior

The Rename File node does not upload or store files. It only updates the file name associated with a file variable in the flow. The renamed file is then passed to the next action, such as a file upload or storage node.

Titan Flow Behavior

When the node runs, it replaces the existing filename with a value you define. The new file name can be built using static text, dynamic variables, or both. Once updated, the file variable retains the new name and cannot be reverted unless it is renamed again later in the flow.

Use Cases

• Rename files before uploading them to Salesforce, SharePoint, or another file storage system
• Rename merged or converted files
• Apply consistent naming conventions based on record data or workflow outputs
• Include runtime values such as IDs, dates, or user input in the file name

Configure the Rename Files Node in Titan Flow

1. In the flow canvas, click Start +.
2. Select Rename Files as the node, then click Next.

3. Click Add Files Variable to add a files variable row.
4. In the Files Variables field, select the files variable that contains the file or files you want to rename.
5. If no files variable exists yet, click + Add Var to create a new file variable.

6. Choose how the file name should be defined:
   • Static to enter a fixed file name
   • Variable to build the name dynamically
7. Enter or select the value that will be used as the file name.
8. When a file’s variable contains multiple files with the same base name, Titan automatically appends a numbered suffix _number to keep file names unique.
9. Click Update to save the node.

An email node was added to the end of the flow to email the uploaded documents to the project owner.

Use the Flow in Titan Web

1. Create a Web project with a file upload element and a button.
   • If you included more than one file variable in your flow, include a File Upload element for each file variable. 
2. Click the On Click Action icon.

3. Click the + icon next to the Start node.
4. Under System action, click the Flow option and then click the Next button.

5. Use the drop-down list to select the Titan Flow project.
6. Click the Configure Parameters button.

7. In the Configure Parameters window, locate the files variable parameter you created.
8. For each files variable parameter, use the drop-down list next to the parameter to select the corresponding File Upload field, for example, File 1 / File or File 2 / File.
9. Repeat this step for each file variable parameter, if multiple are listed. Click Apply. 

10. On the Add Node/Flow screen, click the Next button.
11. If necessary, change the tag and click the Insert button. The Flow node is added to the On Click Action screen.
12. Click the Apply button.

13. Save and Preview the project.

Users can upload one or more files and view the original file names before submitting.

The file is renamed when they click the button, and an email with the new file name and attachment is sent to the recipient.
